Course Description:Â In a culture bombarded by images of youth and beauty, many feel the pressure to live up to this ideal. The impact on self-esteem can be potentially devastating. In this course we explore how culture affects our personal views of beauty; the ways in which different populations are affected by the pressures to be young and beautiful; the clinical implications of poor body image on clients; and the true sources of self-esteem. In addition, we present specific methods to facilitate healthy self-esteem in clients, to not only improve body image, but to improve all facets of a healthy self-image.
Learning Objectives:
- Recognize how the media can impact clients’ self-image, specifically as it relates to youth and beauty.
- Identify the unique challenges facing different populations in terms of beauty and body image.

- Explain the principles of self-esteem and learn specific ways of building self-esteem in clients.
