Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description: This course provides a concise and thorough review of key research and therapy issues in the treatment of ethnic and cultural minority groups, including African-Americans, American Indians, Asians, Hispanics, the gay community, women, the elderly, disabled individuals, patients with HIV disease, and the homeless community. The unique problems faced by each group, as well as specific treatment guidelines, interventions, and models, are discussed. Specific research within the literature is cited throughout this course.
NOTE: This course overlaps with Human Diversity: Current Multicultural Issues in Research and Therapy. It's best to take one or the other, but not both courses, or there will be duplication.
Learning Objectives:
- Review current research issues and treatment outcomes for various ethnic and cultural minority groups.
- List effective interventions and treatment models specific to various ethnic and cultural minority groups.
- Describe treatment strategies specific to clients with disabilities, HIV, and terminal illness.
Course Format:
Course materials can be downloaded or read online. To receive a certificate of completion, you must complete an online multiple-choice post-test with a score of 75% or better and complete an online course evaluation.
