Course Description: Latinos with serious mental illness (SMI) experience health care disparities and may benefit from interventions that improve access to, coordination of, and receipt of primary care services. This study aimed to examine the experiences of Latinos with SMI that are at risk for cardiovascular disease participating in Bridges to Better Health and Wellness (B2BHW), a culturally-adapted health care manager intervention delivered in an outpatient mental health clinic. Researchers found that key elements of the health care manager intervention (e.g., care coordination, patient activation) shaped participants’ experiences with B2BHW and were perceived as beneficial.  

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the aim of the study and the methods related to Latinos with SMI receiving high-quality primary health care
  2. Analyze the data by exploring the intervention elements described in conjunction with the statistical tests used
  3. Integrate the study limitations with the identified areas of future research
