Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description: Depression: Assessment and Treatment. This workshop covers the basic components in assessing and treating clients who are experiencing depression. Various forms of depression and their etiologies are addressed. Methods for assessing depression are covered and students will be provided with different types of intervention strategies ranging from medical, cognitive behavioral and life style changes.
Learning Objectives:
- Classify depression using the 21-question Beck Depression Inventory.
- Differentiate between Seasonal Affective Disorder, Bipolar Depression, Chronic Depression and other depressive disorders.
- Demonstrate causes of depression with a special emphasis on family genetic components and endogenous factors.
- Compare 3 evidence-based treatment modalities recommended for clients diagnosed with depressive disorders.
- Identify 5 simple interventions to treat clients exhibiting depressive symptoms.
- Summarize at least 2 of the consequences of untreated depression including the dangers of depression co-occurring with drug and/or alcohol abuse
