Course Description: Although adolescent substance use has decreased in recent years it remains strongly correlated to adverse outcomes and causes of premature mortality during this life stage. Describing the elements of effective treatment delivery for outpatient treatment programs benefits researchers and clinicians. A review of comparative trials between 2014 and 2017 shows that treatment selection guidelines have remained fundamentally stable and novel stand-alone approaches are showing promise as alternatives to existing evidence-based programs. Further research is needed to explore culturally tailored interventions and integrated treatment programming for at risk adolescents.
Learning Objectives:
- Describe the three treatment delivery factors that impact treatment outcomes for evidence-based approaches.
- Identify 2 culturally tailored intervention strategies that are in need of further evaluation.
