Equine-assisted intervention to improve perceived value of everyday occupations and quality of life in people with lifelong neurological disorders: A prospective controlled study. International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health, 17 (7), 1-22.
Course Description: Several systematic reviews have been conducted on animal-assisted interventions in recent years with resultant decreased patient symptomatology noted respective of mood and balance. Patients with neurological disorders may suffer from poor mobility, poor balance, isolation, and overall fatigue. Previous research studies have identified that specific equine-assisted interventions can improve balance and mobility commensurate with self-esteem improvement, self-assessed health, and fatigue reduction. The current study found that equine-assisted interventions can improve the perceived value of everyday occupations, and quality of life, and can also mitigate feelings of isolation for those with neurological disorders.
