Course Description: Intimate partner violence (IPV) is prevalent in the United States and impacts the individual’s physical, social, and mental health. Healthcare settings are a critical intervention point for IPV screening and referral. Overall, this study evaluated the facilitators and barriers for implementing an IPV protocol in a healthcare setting. Implementation facilitators included clinic staff support, dedication, flexibility, and research team engagement. Identified barriers included a lack of prioritization, loss of intervention champions, a lack of knowledge about the intervention protocol, staff and patient discomfort discussing IPV, and operational issues with screen technology. Researchers found that while the CFIR is a complex tool, it is also comprehensive and effective for IPV screening and referral interventions for healthcare systems in the United States.
