Human trafficking and sexual exploitation is a prominent issue in Cambodia. Researchers suggest high rates of human trafficking in Southeast Asia due to economic inequality and poverty, gender norms, weak legal sanctions, and discrimination. While shelter facilities provide access to necessities for survivors such as housing, food, medical care, and education, earning money has proved to be challenging. The purpose of the study was to explore the experiences of survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Cambodia as they transition from living in trafficking-specific shelter facilities to living in the community. The researcher’s intentions based on the findings are to enhance the shelter experience for both clients and shelter staff.

Course Description: Human trafficking and sexual exploitation is a prominent issue in Cambodia. Learning Objectives:

  1. Analyze the 1 purpose of the study and the methods related to exploring the experiences of survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Cambodia
  2. Analyze the 8 identified themes in conjunction with the discussed findings
  3. Integrate the 3 study limitations with the identified areas of future research
  4. Generalize the plausibility of applying at least 2 findings with survivors transitioning from shelters to life in the community

Course Outline:

  1. Read and understand the article “I feel like we are people who have never known each other before:” The experiences of survivors of human trafficking and sexual exploitation transitioning from shelters to life in the community
  2. Review the Course Description and Learning Objectives
  3. Consider the factors related to survivors’ experiences during transitioning to life in the community coupled with the statistical findings from the respective article
  4. Work through the post-test questions; answer selections should be derived from the accompanying article
  5. Return to the article for clarification regarding human trafficking and sexual exploitation in Cambodia, or for any missed questions

Course Completion Requirements: All course materials are included in your AATBS student account. Attendees must read the course material and complete the accompanying test with a score of 75% or higher. Customers may retest if they score below 75%.

Evaluation: The course evaluation is also accessible in your student account. After completing the course, you will need to complete the course evaluation.
