Course Description: Rates of Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) diagnoses and written prescriptions have increased tremendously among young adults in recent years. However, common assessments were designed to diagnose ADHD in childhood and newer assessments have not been thoroughly evaluated in terms of their diagnostic accuracy. This course reviews the clinical utility of clinical interviews, self-report behavior checklists, cognitive tests, and neuroimaging tests for diagnosing ADHD among young adults. Special attention is paid to co-morbid mental and behavioral health issues and recommendations for a proposed diagnostic battery for adult ADHD is presented.
