Course Description:Â This course is intended for practitioners, community leaders, health care workers, activists, and other individuals who work with people whom have been affected by suicide, and/or wanting to create change related to this concern. This technical package will first present statistics and education that will highlight the need for implementation and continuation of programs and approaches, and stress the need for comprehensive prevention efforts. Secondly, strategies and approaches are described in various forms of programs, policies, and practices with the intended use as a guide and example for implementation. Information is presented in ways to address issues on individual, relationship, community, and societal levels. Outcomes and supportive evidence are provided to demonstrate improvements and efficacy.
Learning Objectives:
1. Cite key research findings on suicide and suicide attempts, and the effects on individuals, families, and communities at large.
2. Assess programs, policies, and practices in place that are designed to address and improve this major concern.
3. Discussion of specific strategies and approaches for prevention, intervention, and postvention efforts.
4. Analyze outcomes and evidence that supports implementation.
