Course Description: Approximately 1 in 5 individuals will experience a significant mental health issue at some point during their early academic experience. Unaddressed mental health disorders can play a contributory role for this demographic’s substance use rate, suicide rate, subpar academic performance level, and eventual involvement in criminal activity. Researchers note that factors adversely impacting the respective individual’s mental health can be addressed via implementation of early symptom detection measures commensurate with feasible tx (treatment) interventions and related tx methods. These approaches can be beneficial for effective and affective symptom mitigation.  School-based practitioners may use a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) as a preliminary framework for addressing the mental health needs of this demographic.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Understand the impact of differing factors on the mental health of school-aged individuals and the consequent need for addressing these issues
  2. Understand the benefits of using a comprehensive screening assessment process when working with this population
  3. Understand the role and function of the Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) respective of screenings, assessments, and related tx method planning and implementation
  4. Identify how MTSS is used and tailored for differing intervention determinations and related tx modalities contingent on the individual’s risk-level

Course Outline

  • Read and understand Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration: Ready, Set, Go, Review: Screening for Behavioral Health Risk in Schools
  • Read and review the Course Description and Learning Objectives
  • Consider factors impacting school-aged individuals, the resultant impact on this demographic’s overall mental health, and the consequent need to screen and treat these students
  • Work through the post-test questions; bear in mind that answer selections should be derived from the respective journal article
  • Return to the referenced article for any missed questions, or to review related guidelines pertaining to MTSS

Course Completion Requirements: All course materials are included in your AATBS student account. Attendees must read the course material and complete the accompanying test with a score of 75% or higher. Customers may retest if they score below 75%.

Evaluation: The course evaluation is also accessible in your student account. After completing the course, you will need to complete the course evaluation.

How certificate is issued: When all requirements for the course have been successfully completed, customers will be able to access and print a personal CE certificate in their student account.
