Bio: Jennifer Kolb, LCSW; Social Work Consultant, reviewed and determined the course meets requirements for continuing education in the field of social work. This course is appropriate for masters and clinical level social workers. Jennifer graduated with a Master’s degree in Social Work with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Louisville, Kentucky. She specializes in school-based psychotherapy with children and adolescents, as well as licensing exam coaching and preparation.

Course Description: Self-injury is increasing becoming a topic of concern and the focus of research as many experts claim that it is reaching epidemic proportions in the United States, especially in the adolescent and young adult population. This course offers a thorough introduction to the topic, identification of affected populations with correlations between self-injury and various mental disorders, assessment and several treatment modalities.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Recognize symptoms and coping mechanisms of self-injurious clients.
  2. Distinguish between forms of self-injurious behaviors within the context of various mental disorders, including eating disorders, Obsessive-compulsive Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder.
  3. Differentiate between common misconceptions and actualities of self-harm.
  4. Assess for and determine the severity of the symptoms of self-injurious behavior.
  5. Utilize various forms of therapy for treating self-injurious clients, including Dialectical Behavior Therapy and Kharre’s Self-Injury Coping Guidelines.

Course Completion Requirements: All course materials are included in your AATBS student account. Attendees must read the course material and complete the accompanying test with a score of 75% or higher. Customers may retest if they score below 75%.

Evaluation: The course evaluation is also accessible in your student account. After completing the course, you will need to complete the course evaluation.

How certificate is issued: When all requirements for the course have been successfully completed, customers will be able to access and print a personal CE certificate in their student account.
