Course Description: This course is intended for clinicians wanting to learn about and incorporate positive psychology principles into training and practice for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) clients. It is the third article in a series geared to placing a focus on LGBT affirming policies and practices including resources. Positive psychology is first defined and introduced, then discussion is provided in a framework approach for application and integration into clinical trainings and practice in working with LGBT individuals. The course is structured by education, examples, and then a foundation of how to use this strengths-based approach in clinical settings and organizations including recommendations for implementation and a discussion of common challenges.
Learning Objectives:
● Describe principles of positive psychology in application with LGBT clients.
● Recognize steps of how to incorporate principles of positive psychology into practice.
● Apply strength-based ideas to trainings and practice for clinicians.
Course Format: Course materials can be downloaded or read online. To receive a certificate of completion, you must complete an online multiple-choice post-test with a score of 75% or better and complete an online course evaluation.
