The updated EPPP exam format, consisting of two separate exams that focus on knowledge and application of skills for psychologists, is the result of several years of research performed by the ASPPB. The ASPPB, in an effort to provide an exam that accurately reflects an assessment of competence in psychology, developed a revised EPPP exam format. The new exam format presents updates based on the skills, tools and information modern psychologists need to succeed in their practice. As a result, the new format includes two exams: EPPP Part 1 that focuses on knowledge and EPPP Part 2 that targets skills.  The skill-based assessment test that is the EPPP Part 2 includes several new domains and learning more about these domains will be vital to passing the Part 2 exam.

This blog series is designed to provide you with more information about the new exam format and help you successfully prepare for the EPPP Part 2.  In each blog post, we’re reviewing the new areas of competency in the EPPP Part 2 and what to expect for each domain.

In this post, we’re taking a look at the Professionalism domain which accounts for 11% of the EPPP Part 2 exam.  This area will look at the test taker’s ability to be personally competent on the job. Much of the Professionalism domain involves professional self-awareness. In particular, you’ll need to understand the limits of reflective practice and competence in your own practice. You’ll also need to demonstrate self-awareness and ability to listen to and respond to professional feedback.

The first part of the Professionalism domain requires future psychologists to identify their limits in professional practice. You’ll need to show that you can both identify these limits in all forms of professional practice and demonstrate that you know how to seek out further assistance. This includes knowing when to request another professional opinion, when to seek out additional professional development, supervision, and training courses, and a commitment to staying up to date on the latest developments in the field.

The second and final part of the Professionalism domain looks at the ability to self-reflect and integrate external feedback. Test takers must demonstrate a commitment to both self and external evaluation, including improving any areas of opportunity and developing skills as needed. Additionally, this entails addressing any personal concerns that might impact you on the job.
