When Will the EPPP Part 2 Be Required?

The Examination for Professional Practice in Psychology (EPPP) is a standardized test that assesses the knowledge and skills of individuals seeking licensure as psychologists in the United States and Canada. The EPPP is administered in two parts, with the first part focusing on the basic knowledge of psychology and the second part focusing on the application of that knowledge in clinical practice.

The EPPP Part 2 is designed to assess the candidate's clinical skills, knowledge, and judgment, in addition to their ability to apply ethical and legal principles to their practice. The test consists of 170  multiple-choice questions and is administered over a four-hour fifteen-minute period. The questions cover a wide range of clinical topics, including assessment and intervention, ethical practice, supervision, and more. 

Currently, not all states in the United States or provinces in Canada require the EPPP Part 2 for licensure as a psychologist. You can check if your state or province requires the EPPP Part 2 here.  

Starting January 2026, all jurisdictions will be required to use the updated EPPP version with both Part 1 - Knowledge and Part 2 - Skills.
